CHARLOTTE, NC – Less than a month away from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to take full effect, MIRA USA presented a workshop in Charlotte to inform and educate Latinos on a few key points of “ObamaCare” that many in the Hispanic community are unaware of.

The session was led by experts who not only explained the implications, benefits, and services of the law, but also provided tips on how to apply and find the best choice to buy in the “Health Insurance Market Place”, which began open enrollment on October 1, 2013 and will conclude March 31, 2014.

Wendy Mateo, from Bethesda Health Center, led the informative segment of the workshop; followed by a Q&A session at the end of the meeting.

In addition, Carlos Carrillo from Blue Cross Blue Shield, spoke on subsidies and additional protections of “ObamaCare” set to take effect on January 1, 2014.

According to Teresa Haylock, health promoter from Novant Health, Latinos who are not elegible under the new health care reform, might still receive medical attention at a low price, or even for free at community clinics.

The event ended with remarks by Karina Gonzalez, from the Mecklenburg County Health Department, raising awareness in the attendees about diseases such as cholesterol and diabetes, and the kinds of food a person should eat to stay healthy.
