The workshop began with the testimony of Brunilde Bustamante, who after having participated in one of the workshops to lose the fear of citizenship examination. He said that having had the first-hand experience in the workshop helped him not to forget the experience and what he learned in this one and thus preparing himself very well with all the questions, was able to pass the interview successfully.
United Stated Citizenship and Immigration Agents Rosalinda Rapacke and Angie Villamil Thomas provided participants with detailed information on eligibility requirements for US citizenship. Also, advice on what to do and say, and what to avoid to be successful throughout the process from completing the application, to passing the interview, taking the oath and attending the naturalization ceremony.
Next, immigration lawyer Nicole Ávila also complemented and enriched the information received and gave details on certain important issues, such as in which situation someone would need the professional accompaniment of an immigration lawyer and what kind of information the applicants must have on hand to fill out the forms, etc.
Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions of their cases to the officers and the lawyer in a public and private way so that they could be better prepared in the process.
Following these presentations, participants practiced questions on the N-400 form and civic questions before their mock citizen interview with immigration officials and MIRA USA volunteers. Participants received feedback on their post-interview.
This is another event in which MIRA USA fulfills its commitment to help improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable populations.
