Miraists in Charlotte Volunteer at the Mobile Ecuadorian Consulate
Charlotte, North Carolina- In the spirit of community service, MIRA USA members in Charlotte helped out during the Ecuadorian mobile consulate’s visit that took place last weekend.
The Ecuadorian consulate, which has its headquarters in Atlanta, also took a census among the attendees so that they could vote in Ecuador’s general elections which will take place this coming January. According to Araceli Pacheco, the director of the Casa del Ecuatoriano, (the Ecuadorian’s House) the work performed by the members of MIRA USA was important to the success of the activity.
Members of “the blue team” helped to greet and guide dozens of Ecuadorians who attended in order to apply for or renew their passports, request birth certificates and access notary services. A total of sixteen miraists, proudly wearing their blue shirts, divided the work by establishing morning and afternoon shifts on both the 25th and 26th of August, the dates of the consulate’s visit.
The miraists also helped in organizing the participants who chose to be tested for HIV through a service provided by a local health organization.
