Tampa, FL – On the night of Saturday, December 2nd, the first MIRA USA Gala Dinner was held in Tampa to commemorate 5 years of continuing social work in Tampa Bay and to reward the most outstanding volunteers of 2017 .
Accompanied by a hundred guests, the Manatee room of the Four Points by Shearon Suites Airport Hotel was decorated receiving our sponsors, donors and volunteers from Tampa and Orlando.

The evening began with a recognition to the sponsors who made this event possible. Taylor White Accounting & Finance Placement, MedCorp LLC, Metro Hair Salon and Spa, Nielsen Media Research, and All Ultrasound Services among the most outstanding sponsors and a dozen other sponsors and donors who identify themselves with the mission, vision and values of our organization and value the hard and tireless work of our volunteers.
The continuing social work
Since 2012 MIRA USA in Tampa has been characterized by its continuing social work. The workshop “Lose the Fear of Taking the Citizenship Exam with MIRA USA”, its main program, has benefited more than 800 people in Tampa Bay area.
Similarly, various seminars and workshops on issues such as immigration, taxes, entrepreneurship, and healthcare have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of people.
Other programs that through the years of work have contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of our community and the protection of the environment, have been the distribution of meals to day laborers and homeless people and the cleaning of a section of the Dale Mabry Hwy for two consecutive years.
It should be noted that the social work of MIRA USA in Tampa has been extended to a number of people who have knocked on the doors of our organization in search of free resources, aids and services available to our immigrant community in the United States.
The awards
“Rewarding only three of our volunteers in Tampa and one in Orlando is not an easy task,” said Jenisel Peña, Branch Director of MIRA USA in Tampa. And it is that during 2017, three citizenship workshops, a tax workshop, two immigration workshops, and the beautification of Copeland Park were held which meant the work of more than a hundred volunteers who selflessly donated their time , strengths and abilities to the service of our community.
Volunteers Ruben Portal (Peru), Katia Nelson (Panama) and Jeslyn Socorro (United States) from Tampa, and Valentina Gonzalez (Colombia) from Orlando, received the “Golden Ant Award 2017” for their commitment, effort, dedication, passion and continuing work in all the activities carried out during the year.
Tom Kersey, American cellist and composer, enlivened the night while the guests enjoyed the draws donated by the sponsors.
