Parents, Learn How to Support Your Children in Their Transition to Higher Education, NY-WEST

On October 25th, MIRA USA held a seminar in Queens, NY, titled: “Parents, Learn How to Support Your Children in Their Transition to Higher Education “, with a guest speaker from the Welcome Center of The City University of New York (CUNY), Mr. Daniel Hyman.

The attendants of the seminar were parents and their children who had the opportunity to learn about educational scholarships, financial assistance, student loans and the 1,700 careers and programs offered by The City University of New York (CUNY) for young people and adults that are interested in continuing their studies.

Mr. Hyman, provided each attendee with a package filled with information about the educational programs, financial assistance and scholarships offered by The City of University of New York. He began his presentation by explaining in detail the application process and its requirements to apply for scholarships and educational programs available for students, regardless of their immigration status or financial situation. Also, during his presentation, two of his main focuses was explaining how a student can be eligible for the in state tuition cost and the types of scholarships available, mentioning the following ones: The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Target Scholarships, Coca Cola Scholars Foundation, Tylenol Scholarships, La Raza Youth Scholarships, Latino American Education Foundation; expressing that unfortunately several of these scholarships and programs are missed each year due to lack of information and knowledge. Finally, Mr. Hyamn concluded his presentation with an interactive question and answer section, moment which the attendees had an opportunity to interact with the presenter and clear up their concerns and questions. 

The purpose of this free seminar was to educate parents in how they could help their children in the transition to higher education, and to provide them with information pertaining to the educational programs, careers and financial assistance offered by The City University of New York.
