MIRA USA held a job-seekers workshop on Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Queens, New York. Over 50 people attended the workshop titled, “Building Job Searching Capacity,” where guest speakers taught the attendees how to build an effective résumé and cover letter, how to utilize social media networks such as LinkedIn, and tips for a successful job interview.
The event included the participation of Pilar Cantor, a recruiter for a wealth management firm, who taught participants about the proper presentation of a résumé and a cover letter. Another guest speaker, Sofia Carreño, a communications director at CUNY CITIZENSHIP NOW, discussed how our activity on social media can have a positive as well as a negative effect on our job seeking activities. She also reviewed professional social media networks like LinkedIn and the ways it can help with finding the ideal job. Lastly, guest speaker Sandra Acuña, who works in talent acquisition at an engineering firm in New York, gave tips and techniques to consider when preparing for a job interview. This activity concluded with a session where participants received a free review of their résumé.
The attendees were grateful to the MIRA USA volunteers for this event and for the unique opportunity to have their résumé reviewed professionally.
