Tampa, FL – MIRA USA joined the National Summit for the Rights of Immigrants “One Voice: Unity on Capitol Hill,” in Washington, DC, from September 27-28, 2017. Leaders from more than 200 Hispanic Organizations working for the communities in the United States gathered to make our voices heard on Capitol Hill.

MIRA USA was invited by the Hispanic Federation to the Welcome Reception, which was attended by some Congressmen, and in which we had the opportunity to share and exchange information with the other Leaders on the most relevant issues that our immigrant community is currently facing.
On September 28, along with other leaders of the State of Florid. MIRA USA visited the Office of Darren Soto, Representative of the 9th District of Florida, who heard the problems faced by immigrants such as education, lack of employment, lack of documents, support for the victims of the most recent natural disasters (Puerto Rico and Mexico), among other topics. Our message as an organization for the rights of immigrants was to provide an opportunity to obtain documents through studies such as those in Canada or Australia, to support the DREAM Act, and other measures to solve the situation faced by thousands of immigrants in the country.
We then visited the office of Representative Kathy Castor of 14th District of Florida, who was not in the office, Lara Hopkins, Deputy Chief of Staff assisted instead.
Hopkins said that representative Castor also supports the DREAM Act, does not agree with the construction of the wall in Mexico and that they are working to provide more aid to the state of Florida after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
Our organization was proud to have had the opportunity to be the voice of the immigrant community at this annual summit, knowing firsthand the daily needs that afflict us, and longing for Congressmen to vote in favor of public policies that benefit our communities.
We would like to give a special thank you to the Hispanic Federation for the invitation and to all Organizations that participated in this event.
